The music of my soul

Have you ever listened to music and have it touch your soul?? You hear that one song and it takes you back to the time and place where you first heard it. Imagine if every song you hear from one band does just that for you. I'm speaking of my favorite band Collective Soul. I've been asked numerous times why Collective Soul is clearly one of my biggest passions. The answer is always the same, "their music is the soundtrack to my life".

The past couple of years have been somewhat rough and I've been able to keep my sanity by listening to them. I absolutely love The World I Know; it seems to uplift me no matter what mood I'm in. A few months ago I had surgery and I was in the hospital for a few days, the first thing I did when I go home was listened to "My Boys" as I like to refer to them and no matter how much pain I was in at that moment all I felt was their music. Also, my four year old son was diagnosed with Autism last year and that was a really sad time for me. His doctor suggested music therapy for him so I introduced him to Collective Soul, his favorite song is "Shine" or as he calls it "Heaven let your light shine down" song. He loves singing it at the top of his lungs and I think it really helps him.

During the Afterwords tour last year, I had the pleasure of seeing them live 6 times during a few months. I traveled the surrounding states to see them (even getting a few speeding tickets in the process), even battling the cold and snow in Vermont. There I had a chance to do what most fans wish they could do; I met the band for the first time. I remember being so nervous I forgot what my name was when Ed asked me. I believe I was more nervous meeting them then the day I got married.

First I was hooked on following their tour shedule on their website www.collectivesoul.com/live/ and seeing what they were up to next. For the past couple of months I've been glued to my computer so I can follow them on Twitter, www.twitter.com/collective_soul it was really no surprise to me that they follow back considering how much their fans mean to them. They read my posts, and answer my questions no matter how silly they are. One of the many perks of following them on twitter is rare pictures, first announcements, and real interaction with the band. It was on twitter that they first announced their upcoming tour with Gavin DeGraw starting June 22 at HOB in Cleveland, OH. I'm extremely excited about the tour though they have yet to announce New England shows, but I know "My Boys" love coming up this way so it will be a matter of time before I get to see them live again.

After posting this, my wishes have been answered Collective Soul has come through for me again. They added more shows to their summer tour and RI will be one their stops. The day of the presale I made sure that I was by my computer and bought my tickets. So now I'm "Counting the days" until I see them again. I can't wait, for every second that I see them live is worth more to me then I can express.

Another thing that I'm extremely excited about is their eighth studio release coming out in late summer. Can't wait for it!!

A Collective Soul fan for life!!
